About the IHM Social Justice Website
This website is a collaborative effort by the men and women of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Social Justice Committee (IHMSJC). We are a group of Catholics who are passionate about the social teachings of the Church. We are committed to educating ourselves, the parish and the broader community about the "best kept secret" of Catholic Social teaching.
Our Mission
The mission of the Social Justice Committee is to raise awareness of Catholic social teaching through education, programs, liturgy and community example.
Our Goals
- Convey to parish that it is a duty of every Catholic to be concerned about social justice.
- Involve and encourage every member of the parish to participate, in some way, in a charity or justice driven ministry.
- Promote the U.S. Catholic Conference of Bishops Policy Statements and other appropriate statements on social justice.
- Take a more active role in lobbying state, local, and national representatives on issues related to social justice, particularly those related to issues covered by the USCCB and the archdiocese.
- Provide specific projects incorporating social justice and charity for parish-wide participation.
- Encourage and facilitate the self-study of committee members in Catholics Social Teaching.
Website Goals
This website is an extension of our physical church based ministry. On this site, we aim to:
- Educate the parish and larger community about Catholic Social Teaching
- Encourage participation in IHMSJC activities by promoting events and actions
- Publish original content by a variety of contributors
- Provide a calendar of IHMSJC events and other local events, actions and activities that would be of intereste to the broader community.
